Native Americans at MSU: Past, Present, and Future

Since 1974 the MSU Department of Native American Studies has provided undergraduate and graduate academic programs for all university students and student support services for Native American students.

Department Director Dr. Walter Fleming will present an overview of the Department—its academic and student support programs, progress in Native American student enrollment and completion rates, challenges faced by Native American students—and talk about the significance of the Native American Hall (opening in the fall of 2021) to MSU’s commitment to American Indians and their role in its history.

Walter Fleming has taught at MSU for 39 years.  He is a recipient of the Montana Governor’s Humanities Award and an enrolled member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.

Friday Forum is a montly speaker series sponsored by MSU Wonderlust, a nonprofit organization affiliated with Montana State University's Extended University and hosted by the Bozeman Public Library. It is open to the public. There is no fee to attend or registration needed. Brown bag lunches are encouraged. Coffee and tea are provided. Join us!
