Thank you to all our 2019 Summer Reading participants!

We look forward to 2020's theme: Imagine Your Story (fairy tales, mythology, and fantasy!) and will be planning our activities for all ages in the spring- please check back!

2019's summer reading program theme is A Universe of Stories! And, like the story weavers we librarians are, we're ready for lift off on a variety of eclectic, exploratory, and original programs for all ages to enjoy and participate in! Whether you prefer constellations or crafty creations, we've planned something for you, including our popular Music on the Green summer concert series.

Why do we participate in a summer reading program? To share our love of books and the importance of literacy with our community! Summertime is a great break from the school year or an 8-month winter,  but summer vacation can also account for learning loss (known as summer slide) in students. Reading over the summer and reading for pleasure can change attitudes about reading (choosing a book to read vs. being assigned a book to read). Participating in a summer reading program can instill a life-long love of reading, increase reading ability, and promotes a general interest in books and libraries.
