This year's summer reading program theme is Libraries Rock! And, like the rockstars we librarians are, we're amped up for a variety of eclectic, musical, and original programs for all ages to enjoy and participate in! Whether you prefer granite or guitars, we've planned something for you, including our popular Music on the Green summer concert series.

Why do we participate in a summer reading program? To share our love of books and the importance of literacy with our community! Summertime is a great break from the school year or an 8-month winter,  but summer vacation can also account for learning loss (known as summer slide) in students. Reading over the summer and reading for pleasure can change attitudes about reading (choosing a book to read vs. being assigned a book to read). Participating in a summer reading program can instill a life-long love of reading, increase reading ability, and promotes a general interest in books and libraries.
